Academic Achievement Programs & Services

Achievement Programs and Services has a mission to help meet the diverse needs of Butler's students. These include a variety of college credit courses, developmental courses, Tutoring, college orientation classes, leadership studies classes, and other programs and services that assist students in accomplishing their academic, career, and life goals.

1. Academic Achievement Centers:
Do you need additional help with your coursework? Butler's Academic Achievement Center offers coursework by appointment, or online, in the areas of math, science, language arts, study skills, stress management, and career planning. Don't hesitate to get that extra help that will allow you to achieve your goals.

The Academic Achievement Centers offer a variety of services to help Butler Students be more successful; chief among these are Independent Study classes.   The independent study option allows students to choose their own consistent weekly attendance times and work individually rather than in a classroom setting.

Both college credit courses and developmental courses are offered in the Butler Academic Achievement Centers (see direct links to each campus AAC at the left side of this page).   Courses are offered in business, language arts, personal development, biological vocabulary, math, and in legal and medical terminology.   Most courses are taught in the independent study (IS) format, but some are taught in face to face and online formats.

2. Honors Academic Program:
Students at Butler Community College who are interested in being more academically challenged have the option to participate in the Honors Academic Program. Options for taking classes for honors credit exist through general education core classes designated as Honors sections, using an Honors option in a regularly scheduled class, or by registering for honors independent study courses.

This course ( OR102) will help students learn to navigate the Butler Pipeline web portal, use Butler email, and other helpful Butler resources.   An introduction to interpersonal skills and class activities to meet new friends and study partners is another part of the Student Connect course. Student Connect (OR102) provides a general introduction to the Butler Learning PACT Skills concept and with an instructor who can help mentor the new student through the first semesters of college.

4. Leadership Studies Program:
The Leadership Studies Program is designed to develop leadership skills through academic courses and practical experience. The Butler Leadership Program is earned by completing the four leadership courses: Exploring Leadership, The Emerging Leader, Team and Community Building, and Leadership Development. Beginning Fall 2008, Butler will also accept BA210 or LS210 as electives to complete the 12 credit hour program.

Butler students are also encouraged to gain valuable leadership experience by joining campus student organizations (Ambassadors, Chess Club, Philosophy Club, Phi Theta Kappa, Student Senate, etc. ) and applying for student leadership positions. These types of experience look good on your resume, but more importantly, leadership experience develops valuable skills for future your career challenges.

Participation in the leadership studies classes is a requirement to be eligible for the Leadership Scholarship that is awarded annually.   For more information, visit: Butler Leadership Studies
