The Nature of Independent Study

Independent Study classes in the AAC offer an alternative to the traditional classroom, with flexible scheduling and a self-paced learning environment. This flexibility requires that you , the student, take personal responsibility for your learning. Independent study courses require maturity, responsibility, and ability to set goals, and self-discipline.

As an Independent Study student:

  • You are expected to attend regularly each week at the times you set with your instructor at orientation until all course requirements are met.
  • You are expected to attend all scheduled classes and make regular consistent progress.
  • You are expected to work exclusively with your assigned instructor.

Advisors: Please inform students enrolling in independent study classes that they will be able to schedule their weekly, set class times only within their instructor‘s given schedule below. Specific times will be chosen at orientation with the specific instructor. They should call the AAC starting May 21st for the summer semester and Aug. 6th for the fall semester at 218-6237 to make an orientation appointment.
