The Catail Classic Livestock Judging Contest is coming up. Click here for more information.

Butler has become nationally recognized for its success in the livestock judging arena. The team's achievements include multiple championship finishes including 23 national contest victories this decade! In fact, the Butler squad ranks as the only program in the nation to secure championship finishes at every nationally recognized contest during the past five seasons! In 6 out of the past 9 campaigns Butler has been named the champion team at the North American in Louisville, Kentucky and the school still holds the all-time scoring record in oral reasons at the prestigious event. This winter the team completed a rare "three-peat" at the National Western Stock Show in Denver while becoming the first junior college program to post victories in both the regular contest and carload competition in the same year. Other national victories have included the American Royal in Kansas City; Houston Livestock Show in Houston, TX, the San Antonio Livestock Exposition in San Antonio, TX, and the Southwestern Expo and Livestock Show in Fort Worth, TX. Astonishingly, Butler has also produced twenty-four "National Junior and Community College Livestock Judging All-Americans" over the past five years.

The livestock judging program is extremely intense in its teaching of livestock selection and its application to the livestock industry. While competition is important to the learning process of judging team members, it is not the single component of their training. Many hours are spent evaluating stock at some of the premier operations in Kansas and across the country.

Butler's graduating sophomores have continued their success at the university level. Alumni will attest to the fact that Butler's program prepared them for success at the senior college level and in their career fields.
The livestock judging team is coached by Chris Mullinix.
