Emergency Medical Service Education
Emergency Medical Technician - Basic:
Take initiative and join a field that is both challenging and unique. Butler's Emergency Medical Technician program helps prepare students for the intense field of emergency rescue. First respondents are responsible for extinguishing fires, securing the scene of a crime, and saving lives. Learn to provide basic life support to injured victims and pre-hospital treatment of trauma and medical emergencies. Butler's program is guided by the standards of The United States Department of Transportation, National Standard curriculum, and the Kansas Statute authorized Activities for the EMT.
Class Information:
The EMT class includes the lecture course AH 110 ( 8 hours credit) and AH 212 the skills course ( 2 hours credit). The class includes 168 hours of classroom time including lecture, lab, and clinical time in ER and on an ambulance. The course consists of Emergency Medical Technician - Basic National Standard Curriculum and the Kansas Enrichments. Successful completion of the course allows the individual to challenge the Kansas and National Registry Exams to become certified as a Kansas and National Registered EMT-B.
Career Opportunities:
Health services are one of the fastest growing job areas in the US. In addition to working on an ambulance, many EMTs work in Fire Service and in hospitals. Many EMTs have gone on to expand their knowledge as a Paramedic, Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Physician or in other Allied Health Areas.
