My name is Alan Brown. I teach Biology and Microbiology at Butler Community College.
I grew up in Salina, KS and earned an undergraduate degree (biology-major, chemistry-minor) from Kansas Wesleyan University. My Ph.D. is in Immunology and Medical Microbiology from the University of Florida. I did post-doctoral research at Brandeis University (Waltham, MA, greater Boston). I spent 11 years on the research faculty at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, TN) studying immune responses. Subsequently, I joined the faculty of Kansas State University’s Veterinary Medical College, where I taught immunology to veterinary medical students and did research on aerosolized vaccines.
I left science for nearly 5 years during which time I was a Financial Advisor (stock broker). I had a wonderful opportunity to return to science by joining the Butler Community College family and have been having fun teaching the sciences ever since.
