Cooperative Education/Internships

What is Cooperative Education/Internships?

Students enrolled in the Cooperative Education/Internship program earn college credit while gaining valuable work experience, providing the following conditions are met.

The student must:

  • Be employed in their major field of study or their career field.
  • Work 50 hours on your job for each credit hour of Cooperative Education.
  • Complete the academic assignments contained in a portfolio provided by the faculty coordinator.
  • Master competencies set out in a brief training plan developed by the student, supervisor and faculty coordinator.

All assignments included in the portfolio relate directly to your job. You may enroll at any time during the semester. No formal classroom time is required and no books to buy!

Students may enroll for 2-6 credits per semester and a total of 24 credits while at Butler. Credit earned in Cooperative Education satisfies elective credit requirements in most Butler programs of study and is accepted by many area schools and colleges.

Internships are also available. The purpose of an internship is to allow the student an opportunity to explore and observe a career field of choice. Students may enroll for 2-3 credit hours per semester in an internship.
