About Foreign Language

Learn to Communicate --- In Another Language!

As technological advances continue to shrink our global village, the need to communicate in more than one language is growing. Yet, only about 20 percent of the U.S. population knows a second language. Opportunities in both the public and private sectors abound for graduates who can speak a second language and have cross-cultural understanding.

Butler’s Foreign Language Department offers courses in Spanish, French, Russian and Japanese. These courses fulfill the humanities requirements in degree programs, as well as the requirements of the foreign language major.  The department also offers specialized training for those who need technical language skills for specific occupations.

Whether you are a foreign language major or are studying another field, studying another language increases your marketability. Many employers view the knowledge of another language as an asset when hiring people who can help their organization compete in the global marketplace.

Butler’s foreign language faculty use proven teaching methods to give you the individual attention you need when learning to read, write, listen, speak and develop cultural understanding in a chosen language.
