Deciding to change your major can be a difficult decision. Please contact an advisor if you need help in determining which major helps you best meet your academic and career goals. You will need to have a clear understanding of a major's program requirements before making a major change. If you are a degree seeking student, your current major and corresponding degree requirements can be viewed on your GPS which is located on your Pipeline home page.

Changing your major is a formal process that requires documentation.

How to Change your Major

Using your Butler email address, submit an email to advising@butlercc.edu. The subject of the email should be "Major Change." The email will need to contain the following:

• First and last name
• Butler Student ID number
• Daytime telephone number
• Current major at Butler
• Intended major
• Effective semester for change of major

An advisor will review your request for a major change and contact you with any questions. Please note that it may take up to five business days for the major change to be reflected on all of your student records.

Financial Aid Eligibility

In order to receive federal financial aid and most types of institutional aid, you must be in a degree seeking program or eligible certificate program. To determine if your major is financial aid eligible, please contact the Butler Financial Aid Department. Non-degree seeking and guest students are usually not financial aid eligible.

Previously Non-Degree Seeking

If you are non-degree seeking and now want to declare your intent to pursue a degree or certificate, you may be required to complete assessment testing, and you will be required to submit official transcripts from all colleges you have attended.

Transfer Students

If you plan on obtaining a degree from Butler but have the intent to transfer to a four year institution, you should consider declaring a Liberal Arts major at Butler.

If you do not plan on receiving a degree from Butler but you want to complete some coursework at Butler and then transfer to a four year institution, you should consider declaring a Transfer Major at Butler.
