Become a better citizen by learning about the world’s history, politics, economics, and geography.
Butler’s Social Sciences Department offers general education courses so you can gain the basic knowledge and skills you’ll need to transfer to a four-year college or university. Whether you eventually want to major in one of our fields or simply fulfill your general education requirements, we’ll prepare you by enhancing your critical thinking skills and helping you develop a strong worldview that will enable you to make better decisions and to become a leader who has the ability to differentiate between fact and fiction. Of course, if you want to teach history someday, be an economist, or even be a politician, then this is where your journey begins.
Butler’s Social Sciences Department teaches a wide variety of disciplines ranging from the history of world civilizations and the history of western civilizations to the history of the United States. From world geography, foreign relations, macro- and micro-economics to American federal, state, and local government, we’ve got it all covered.
