Let's Get Started!
Are you currently part of an apprenticeship at Hutchinson Electrical Training Academy? Butler's skilled trade program would be a perfect fit for you!
This program is a partnership between select apprenticeship training organizations and Butler Community College (BCC). The goal of this arrangement is to provide an opportunity for apprentices to earn an Associate of Applied Science (15 credit hours – general education) or Associate of Applied Science in Workforce Development (26 credit hours) while meeting the requirements needed to obtain their Journeyman’s card during their apprenticeship indenture. A maximum of 47 Butler CC college credit hours will be applied towards the AAS degree once the Journeyman’s Card has been issued.
Presidential Welcome
Hello and Welcome!
For more than 90 years Butler has been all about student success, and I am delighted you are embarking on your next “growth journey” with Butler! Our faculty and staff are dedicated to your success and we are constantly challenging ourselves to provide you enriching and dynamic learning environments. Your personal and professional goals are important to us and I know you’ll be in great hands.
Besides the quality in the classroom, we are always seeking valuable partnerships with industry as we want our students to have first-hand access to the industries which interest them. As Butler nears its 100th anniversary, the work our founders did still shines and thrives today. As the state’s second largest community college, our commitment to accessible and affordable education for all remains unwavering. At Butler, you’ll find an outstanding, challenging experience that prepares you for greater success in the future and places you on a level of technical expertise that is recognized and valued in the area.
I applaud your resolve for professional growth. Our workforce needs you!
Best regards,
Kimberly W. Krull, Ph.D.

Program Options
Butler Community College has worked with Hutchinson Electrical Training Academy (HETA) to deliver options for two different college degree tracks. For those wanting to earn an Associate of Applied Science with no intention of continuing on in their college career you will be required to take a minimum of 15 credit hours from BCC. This is known as a “non-transferable” degree. The remaining credit of 47 hours will be applied through the training you have earned in your HETA apprenticeship program by presenting a copy of your Journeymen’s card.
For those interested in working towards a bachelor’s degree:
Butler and Pittsburg State University have teamed up to provide students the opportunity to earn a four-year Workforce Development degree. The Bachelor of Science in Workforce Development is an online bachelor's degree completion program designed for busy working adults seeking flexible and convenient way to finish their degree. Prospective majors have completed the two-year Butler associate of applied science degree and are interested in pursuing a career in management (leadership and supervision). The Bachelor of Science in Workforce Development is an ideal program for those who are work bound and cannot attend on-campus classes at a college or university.
By enrolling in the BCC Workforce Development AAS you can apply 47 credit hours earned when you receive your Journeyman’s card and take the remaining 26 credit hours from BCC. The Workforce Development AAS degree can be transferred directly into the Bachelor of Science degree at Pittsburg State.
Participation in Butler CC degree programs while in the Hutchinson Electrical Training Academy apprenticeship program is allowed and encouraged. The responsibilities to your apprenticeship program are the top priority so please consider training, workload and personal obligations before enrolling at Butler CC.

If you have not completed college level English but provide your high school transcript you may not need to placement test. Advising staff will assist you in determining your placement test requirements.
Placement testing helps you succeed in your course work at Butler. You are required to take the placement test if you do not meet the requirements above. Results are used to identify areas where you would benefit from some additional instruction.
