About Instrumental Music

LEAVE YOUR MUSICAL FOOTPRINT.

Playing a musical instrument is a talent that can be both challenging to develop and rewarding to share. Whether your instrument is a trumpet or a bass guitar, the skills you hone to become a trained musician will pay dividends for a lifetime. Whether you make music your career or not, the world will be a better place with your music in it.

Butler is a great place for both novice and more experienced students to learn their instruments. We offer instruction in traditional band instruments, keyboards, and jazz. Our classes are small enough to give you the individual instruction that is critical to developing your skills. We also provide plenty of performing ensembles to develop as an artist in concert band, pep band, or jazz, percussion, and chamber ensembles.

You can continue your studies at a four-year university, and the credits you earn at Butler go with you. Your enthusiasm for music will endure throughout your life.

MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE.

Whether you are a music major or not, everyone is encouraged to get involved.

Take a class or audition for an ensemble. You may also apply for a scholarship.

MUSIC EDUCATION

Music is fun. It’s soulful and impactful. Take your knowledge of music and help students develop their instruments. Along with learning fundamental music skills at Butler, you learn music theory, piano skills, composition, and methods. You can learn from professional musicians and use these skills to teach future generations.

You also have the opportunity to observe music education classes in the K-12 setting. Use your gift for performing and combine it with your gift for teaching others and you will succeed in music education at Butler.
