The BCC Theatre Department’s Season of Friendships opens with one of William Shakespeare’s most popular comedies. Taking place in mythical Athens and an enchanted forest, there is a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, star-crossed lovers, a weaver who’s transformed into a half donkey, plus a few wood sprites and elves. It’s about the world’s most popular pastime – falling in love. And, what falling in love does to friendships.

Boys will be boys – or will they? This tuneful, comedy classic tests the friendship of Oxford University students Charley and Jack. The two young men invite the young and winsome Amy and Kitty to lunch under the chaperoning eye of Charley’s wealthy aunt. But, when the aunt doesn’t show, Charley decides to impersonate her. This Tony Award winning musical has quick changes, fast-talking, marriage proposals, compromising situations and rowdy hilarity. Songs include the show stopping “Once in Love with Amy”.

This delightful children’s theatre play is an exploration of friendship as it tells the story of Little Girl & Bossy Best Friend who share a garden. When Bossy leaves to visit her grandmother, Little Girl uproots the tomato plant to find the Tomato Plant Girl. When Bossy returns to find that Tomato Plant Girl has become Little Girl’s new best friend it is high energy conflict and friendships are tested.

Two one-act plays that explore the idea of friendships.
The first scene, “Crew Cut” tells the story of brothers packing up their deceased father’s home. By the end of the packing, through the memory of a unique haircut, they develop a friendship that had been missing from their youth.
In the second scene, “Spit Curls”, a hairdresser, a groom, a florist and a minister find themselves in a comical situation that tests a friendship and may prevent a wedding – a wedding that is slowly collapsing like a bad hair-do!

Armed with an acerbic quip and a dazzling frock, the flamboyant, vivacious socialite Mame Dennis lives by the mantra, “Life’s a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!” Into this world comes her young orphaned nephew, Patrick Dennis. Mame finds that she has been appointed as his guardian and the two immediately form a loving friendship. Mame sets out to rescue Patrick from the stuffy, conventional people who don’t approve of Mame’s lifestyle of “LIVE! LIVE! LIVE!"
