Butler Radio KBTL 88.1

Butler Radio (KBTL 88.1 FM) is the El Dorado campus' student-operated radio station. When you work for KBTL, you gain valuable hands-on experience producing entertainment, news, sports and information programming (including talk shows, music shows and play-by-play/color announcing of Butler football and basketball). 88.1 The Grizz broadcasts at 400 watts, covering the entire Butler County area, 365 days a year.

Activity scholarships, which cover tuition (equivalent to that paid by Kansas in-county residents) and books, are available each semester for Butler Radio staff. You don’t need to major in mass communications in order to participate or receive a scholarship, but you will be required to work on radio, television and internet projects.

Butler radio is one of the most honored student radio stations in Kansas, regularly receiving more student awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters than any other two-year Kansas institution (and often receiving more awards than most four-year institutions). Students regularly showcase their radio projects in national festivals sponsored by the College Media Association and Collegiate Broadcasting. Former Butler radio students can be heard on radio stations throughout Kansas, usually after completing four-year degrees.
