Butler gym temporarily closes due to water damage

The torrential rains which swept through the area over the July Fourth holiday weekend had its own impact on Butler Community College.

The gym floor and extended lower level of the college’s 500 Building on the El Dorado campus experienced significant water damage following the heavy rains and subsequent flooding.

College officials were notified this week that flooding was significant enough to require a complete replacement of the gym floor. Therefore, the athletic building is closed as of today, July 8, so repairs and cleaning can begin immediately. A target due date to reopen the 500 Building has been set for July 17. Public groups scheduled to use the facility in the coming weeks have been notified and alternative plans are being made to accommodate their needs.
