Butler Community College to Host Annual Conference on Accelerated Learning

Butler Community College of El Dorado, Kansas will host The Great Plains Conference on Acceleration.

Butler Community College of El Dorado, Kansas will host The Great Plains Conference on Acceleration on March 8th and 9th, 2018. This conference will provide information and support for colleges considering or undergoing developmental education redesign in English and math. Representatives from colleges in Kansas and the Midwest are invited to participate in workshops and presentations on programs like Butler’s successful Accelerated Learning Program and its recently redesigned math course sequences. In addition, attendees will discuss new ways to add rigor to developmental curricula.

This event also includes a free pre-conference led by College Board about the transition to the Next Generation version of the Accuplacer placement test. The workshop is designed for faculty, academic deans, enrollment managers, advisors, learning support directors, and testing personnel responsible for the setup, implementation and maintenance of Accuplacer testing.

The two-day event will be held in the Butler Community College Hubbard Welcome Center in El Dorado. Three nationally recognized speakers will give presentations. Speakers include Susan Gabriel, Director of the Accelerated Learning Program at the Community College of Baltimore County, Jesse Kiefner, Director of the Accelerated Mathematics Program at the Community College of Baltimore County and Patrick Saxon, Director of the Developmental Education Doctoral Program at Sam Houston State. Participants from Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa are registered to attend.
