Butler Art Gallery to Exhibit Art Show
E.B. White Gallery to Host Wichita Native, Kamela Eaton
El Dorado, Kan. – The artwork of Kamela Eaton is the highlight of this month’s art show hosted by Butler Community College’s Art Department. The show will be running until December 6 in the E.B. White Gallery.
Eaton was born and raised in Wichita and earned a BFA in Graphic Design from Wichita State University. According to her artist’s statement, Eaton’s paintings express aspects of her identity, dealing with topics such as race, class and her Midwestern upbringing in bold unflinching ways. Her paintings range from comedic and bizarre to somber and unsettling, sometimes all in the same painting.
Through her direct and expressive art, Eaton hopes to express “her experiences and ‘states of mind’ while living poor, depressed, queer, creative and black in the United Stated of America.”
“I hope to paint truth to power, one brushstroke at a time,” said Eaton.
A gallery reception will be held on December 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the E.B. White Gallery, located in the 700 Building of Butler’s El Dorado Campus. For additional information about the show, contact Trisha Coates at [email protected] or 316-200-5986.
The E.B. White Gallery is open to the community from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
