College’s Erman B. White Gallery to host viewing of student works

The students are the highlight of this month’s art show hosted by Butler Community College’s Art Department. The Juried Student Art Exhibition will begin on Thursday, April 15, and run until Friday, May 7 at the Erman B. White Gallery of art.

Butler studio art students were encouraged to submit two pieces of art from each class for consideration. A juror then selected the work to be on display for the show, as well as identified award recipients for various categories: Best in show, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional artwork.

This year’s juror, Emily Christensen, is the coordinator of external affairs for Wichita State University's School of Art, Design and Creative Industries. She regularly writes about, volunteers and advocates for the arts.

"With COVID, this has been a year like no other, and we are thrilled to be able to celebrate these exceptionally hardworking students who persevered through numerous challenges to accomplish work in the studio,” said Trisha Coates, Associate Professor of Art.

Award recipients will be announced during a special gallery reception Thursday, April 15 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Erman B. White Gallery, located in the 700 Building on Butler’s El Dorado campus. Masks and social distancing are required. For additional information about the show, contact Trisha Coates at [email protected] or 316.200.5986. The E.B. White Gallery is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
