Butler Music and Theatre Departments Collaborate to Present "The Pajama Game"
Tony Award winning musical to be presented at Fine Arts Theatre
Butler Community College’s Music and Theatre Departments will present “The Pajama Game,” a musical theatre production with music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross and book by George Abbott and Richard Bissell. It is based on the novel "7 ½ cents" by Richard Bissell. This musical comedy is about a union strike at a pajama factory that generates plenty of steam heat in this toe-tapping, comedic love story.
The original production of “The Pajama Game” won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1955, and the revival production won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 2006. Butler’s production is directed by Professor of Theatre Samuel Sparks, choreographed by Professor of Music and Dance Valerie Lippoldt Mack, and music direction is by Professor of Music Matthew Udland. The show takes place in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Butler of El Dorado campus, at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 and Nov. 19, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 20.
The show will include a 20-person orchestra made up of faculty and student musicians, a dance number by the Butler Headliners, and another number with four featured dancers. Nearly 100 students in total will work both onstage and offstage for the show.
Purchase tickets from 1-5 p.m. at the Box Office in the Fine Arts Building, call 316.322.3262 or go online at www.butlercc.edu/boxoffice. Cost is $5 per person. Butler students, staff and faculty get in free with Butler ID.
