ARISE to perform on Butler of Andover campus February 14

In celebration of Black History Month, ARISE will visit Butler Community College's Andover campus on Feb. 14 to present a choral and story-telling program for students, faculty, staff and the community at large. The event will be held in the Kanza Room from 12 to 1 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Black Student Association (BSA) in partnership with the Student Government Association (SGA). The Butler of Andover campus is located at 715 E. 13th Street in Andover.

The event is free and open to the public as an educational opportunity for people to learn about the rich heritage and impact of African American spirituals.

A.R.I.S.E. (African Americans Renewing Interest in Spirituals Ensembles) was established to honor the African American forefathers and mothers who created spirituals and to shine a light on how spirituals can continue to unify and uplift. In 2009, ARISE became a 501c3 arts education organization, enabling it to reach more audiences, especially children and youth. From then, ARISE illuminates the power of spirituals to touch peoples’ lives, inspires hope, and promotes freedom as they were created to do.
