AIN'T I A WOMAN! Comes to Butler February 28
Chamber Music Theatre Work Closes Out Butler’s Celebration of Black History Month
Butler Community College will present a performance of the chamber music theatre work “Ain’t I A Woman” on Tuesday, February 28, at 7 p.m. in the Kanza Room on its Andover campus.
Conceived and performed by The Core Ensemble, “Ain’t I A Woman!” features Shinnerrie Jackson playing a total of four roles: ex-slave and abolitionist Sojourner Truth, novelist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, folk artist Clementine Hunter, and civil rights worker Fannie Lou Hamer. The show was created for actress, cello, piano and percussion with text by Kim Hines and a musical score drawn from the heartfelt spirituals of the Deep South.
Co-sponsored by the Butler Inclusion Council and the Butler English department, the show is free and open to the public.
