New name represents department's modern job market focus

Butler Community College announced its business development and training arm, formerly known as Business Education and Training Analysis (BETA), will now be known as Career and Workforce Education (CWE), effective July 1.

The department will retain its focus on offering classes and apprenticeships to Butler students and members of the community, while continuing to work with businesses to offer important skills training to their current and future employees.

Michelle Ruder, Director of Career and Workforce Education, believes the new name is a better reflection of the work her team does. “We provide career training and retraining opportunities,” she said. “And we’re always pursuing new and impactful workforce initiatives, such as our recent designation by the state as a Registered Apprenticeship Intermediary.”

With hundreds of training opportunities available both in-person and online, the Career and Workforce Education team works with third-party instructors across the country in fields as diverse as fiber optics and human resources to masonry, home inspection and welding. “We tap into the experts,” said Assistant Director Jon Cressler, “to try to be a value-add for both the school and community.”

“This new name shows we’re a one-stop shop for everyone,” Ruder said. “’Career’ for individual professionals needing to upskill, and ‘Workforce’ for companies large and small who need customized training for their employees.”
