Butler's BCTV to produce ESPN+ broadcast
Sports media students will gain hands-on experience working national broadcast.
The National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) announced yesterday that, for the very first time, students in Butler Community College's sports media program will be the primary production team for an ESPN broadcast.
The Butler Grizzly football team will play Dodge City Community College on Saturday, November 4, in a match-up of nationally-ranked teams, and Butler Creative TV (BCTV) will produce the game in partnership with the NJCAA and California's Tourbeau Sports.
Butler’s 40-foot mobile production trailer, donated two years ago by Evergy, will serve as the hub for the production.
Butler students will be involved in directing, running replay, providing graphics and operating nine cameras for the broadcast, which will be live-streamed on the ESPN+ app.
It will be the first ESPN-branded sporting event involving Butler athletics and the first national-level partnership for BCTV.
“We are very excited for our students to work on a live broadcast for ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports television,” said Matt Jacobs, BCTV station manager. “Our sports media students get incredible hands-on experiences at Butler and this is one more exciting opportunity!”
The game will kickoff at 12:03 and will be available on the ESPN+ app.
Butler’s sports media program is designed to educate students pursuing careers in all aspects of broadcasting, including on-air and behind-the scenes, as well sports photography and sports writing.
