Butler Community College Announces Winners of Butler County Spelling Bee

Top three spellers place at Butler Community College's annually hosted 2025 Butler County Spelling Bee on Friday, February 7.

Samuel Riley named 2025 Butler County spelling bee champion

Butler Community College hosted the annual 2025 Butler County Spelling Bee on Friday, February 7 in the R.D. Hubbard Welcome Center on the El Dorado campus. Samuel Riley of Andover Middle School was named champion. 
 
A total of 26 contestants from Butler County elementary and middle schools competed for eight total rounds. Samuel was the only student to advance to the Championship Round. 
 
Samuel correctly spelled the word “anxiety” to be named the winner. He will now move on to the state spelling bee on Saturday, March 22, at Mabee Arena at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. 
 
Blake Dunbar from Grandview Elementary in El Dorado earned second place and Vidvath Vennavelli from Wheatland Elementary in Andover placed third.
