Our magazine and newspaper are both award-winning publications. When we compete, Butler students often beat out four-year university student work. We've won for overall publication and individual student work in design, story writing and photography,

Butler's student magazine The Grizzly is a full-color, high-gloss publication ​that comes out three to four times during the academic year. Our students have earned multiple Journalist of the Year, two-year colleges awards and other recognitions from Kansas Collegiate Media (KCM). 

The Lantern, our student newspaper, is the largest circulating community college newspaper in Kansas. Our team holds a reputation for engaging editorial content and accurate reporting.

Build Your Journalism Skills

From interviews to drafting to publishing, you gain experience for your career. You collaborate in a professional setting with mentors and peers to effectively revise and edit each contribution. You graduate prepared for a career in positions like publication editing and reporting, public relations, digital and social media publishing, education and marketing communications.

Our program is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of a Multimedia Journalism career. Once you earn your associate degree, you have transfer options to build on your Butler experience.

    The Grizz is our student-run radio station for the college and surrounding communities. We flavor our Rock-Jazz format with a wide variety of specialty music and talk shows.
