He began his career teaching English at Cloud County Community College, where he eventually served in leadership roles including Department Chair and Associate Vice President for Planning and Assessment.

Since 2019, Dr. Malone has led the development of new technical programs at GCCC, contributing to major economic investment in southwest Kansas. He has also strengthened the transfer student experience at GCCC and secured grants, including Title III STEM funding and Rural Business Development Grants, to expand resources and opportunities for all students.

“I am honored to join Butler Community College and will work to support and continue the tradition of excellence at Butler,” said Malone. “I’ve always been committed to fostering environments that support people, certainly our students, faculty, and staff, but also our industry partners and the health and well-being of communities across Butler County, our region, and our state.”

Dr. Tamara Daniel, President of Butler Community College, sees Malone’s 14 years of experience in higher education in Kansas as a valuable asset to Butler. “Dr. Malone brings an exceptional record of leadership in academic affairs and a deep commitment to student success throughout the Kansas community college system,” said Daniel. “I am truly excited to welcome Dr. Malone to Butler, where his collaborative spirit and passion for building strong academic and workforce pathways will benefit our students, employees, and the entire Butler County community.”

Originally from Jacksonville, Illinois, Malone said he believes in a collaborative, community-centered process that benefits all Butler County residents, not just students. “Together, we will continue to build programs and pathways that support quality of life through quality education.”

Dr. Malone’s appointment underscores Butler’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, workforce readiness, and student success.
